Industrial
Asthma
Mr Russell
was employed by a safe making company when he contracted
industrial asthma. He was exposed to fumes from a paint
spray booth. It was established that spray painting was
also done outside the booth and no protection was provided
for employees. Mr Russells employers refused to settle his
compensation claim and Case Direct had to raise a court
action. They eventually agreed to pay him £20,000 compensation
for his industrial asthma.
Vibration
White Finger
Mr McDonald
was working on the manufacture of an aircraft when he developed
vibration white finger. As a result of constant use of rivet
guns his fingers turned white, numb and lost feeling. He
had to change his job and his wages were reduced as a result.
His employer’s insurance company delayed in agreeing to
pay compensation so we decided to raise a court action.
They eventually agreed to pay Mr MacDonald £20,000 compensation
for his vibration white finger in order to avoid having
to go to trial.
Mr Caldwell
was working in a shot blast chamber in a steel mill when
he developed vibration white finger. He had this occupational
disease for many years before realising what it was. He
approached Case Direct as a witness for another employee
who had vibration white finger and when we discussed the
case with him we established that he was suffering from
the same condition. Since he had no prior knowledge of the
condition, we were able to pursue a compensation claim on
behalf of Mr Caldwell despite the fact that he had been
retired for six years. The steel mill’s insurance company
paid him £4,000 compensation for the vibration white finger
without having to go to court.
Dermatitis
Mr Pary
was employed at a naval dockyard as a painter when he contracted
dermatitis. He was painting in confined spaces inside ships
and developed this industrial disease due to exposure to
paint and fumes. His employers accepted liability and Mr
Pary was paid £16,500 compensation for his dermatitis.
