Asbestos
related diseases
Mr Cameron
developed his asbestos disease while working in the Clydeside
shipyards near Glasgow. He contracted mesothelioma due to
asbestos exposure and died leaving a widow and two children.
We took his family’s claim for damages to court. The case
took several years and involved a long complicated procedure
because of the many different shipbuilding companies who
had employed Mr Cameron. His family were very grateful when
we eventually won compensation of £62,500 for his exposure
to asbestos.
Mr
Ruddock was employed by the Ministry of Defence in one of
their shipyards when he contracted mesethelioma from exposure
to asbestos. He had been retired for two years and was told
by his doctor that he could only expect to live for a further
two years because of the serious nature of his asbestos
disease. Case Direct investigated Mr Ruddocks claim and
won compensation of £140,000 in less than ten months.
Mr Smith
was 73 and had long since retired from working in the shipyards
when he was diagnosed with pleural plaques and pleural thickening
due to asbestos exposure. He had worked for a number of
different ship building companies over the years and, due
to this, his employers refused to pay compensation. Case
Direct raised a court action and eventually they agreed
to pay Mr Smith compensation of £15,000.
Mr Hart
was a plater working on fishing vessels in the Aberdeen
area when he was exposed to asbestos and contracted pleural
plaques. The company he was working for at the time had
changed its name several times and were refusing to pay
any compensation for his asbestos disease. Case Direct had
to raise a court action and sue his employers under several
different names in order to win the case. Eventually they
agreed to pay compensation of £10,000 in order to avoid
going to trial.
