Accidents
in public places
Ms Clark
was on her way to work when she had an accident in the street.
She slipped on a loose paving stone sustaining an injury
to her foot. The local authority refused to accept responsibility
for the accident so Case Direct took the case to court.
We did not have to go to trial as the local authority’s
insurance company eventually agreed to pay Ms Clark compensation
of £1,500.
Kelly
Smith was eight years old when she had an accident in the
street. She fell down a hole in the pavement and injured
her leg. The local authority refused to pay her parents
any compensation so Case Direct raised a court action. The
local authority eventually paid them compensation of £3500
for Kelly’s accident in the street.
Mr Herd
was out walking when he fell down an uncovered manhole on
the pavement. As a result of the accident he broke his leg
and had to take time off work. The council rejected his
claim for compensation until Case Direct raised a court
action. They then agreed to settle out of court for £15,000.
Mr Sharp
was out walking his dog, minding his own business when he
was assaulted from behind by assailants. He was taken to
hospital and detained overnight for observation. He sustained
lacerations to his head where he had been hit with a blunt
instrument. The police were informed and Case Direct registered
a claim with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.
Mr Sharp made a full recovery within two weeks and was awarded
£1500 compensation.
